FAQs

Tutoring

I am unsure if tutoring is best for my student. Will it help?

My methods and curriculum have immensely helped and improve confidence for every student I have worked with. Whether your student needs help catching up, or wants to advance and enhance their learning, one on one tutoring allows students to ask questions and get the individualized help they need. I ensure each of my sessions are engaging and interactive.

Do you tutor small groups?

Yes! If you have a small group of students, I am happy to tutor them. It is preferred that the group is the same grade, or around the same level. Group session are 1 hour. I charge $50 for groups of 2 or less if the students are the same grade. Groups of 3 or more, or if the students are different grades are $50 per hour + $10 for each student.

I have students in different grade levels. Can you tutor them at the same time?

Depending on your needs, this can be discussed. Tutoring different grade levels can sometimes keep the students from getting the individual attention they need. Of course, we can discuss what is best for your student. For groups of students in different grades, the rate is $50 + $10 for each student.

How long does the session last?

Depending on your student’s attention and needs, I offer 30 minute, 45 minute or 60 minute sessions. If you are looking for a different time span, this can be discussed during the initial session.

What does my student need for the session?

I will usually ask that the student to just have a pencil on hand for the session. Depending on the needs of the student, I may also request a binder to keep all worksheets and assignments together. I will bring any other materials or worksheets for the session.

How do I know how the session went?

Upon request, we can send a brief summary after the session by text or email accourding to preference. We can also brief you on how the session went right after. This includes concepts worked on, accomplishments or concerns, and any other important information.

Will you work with my student’s teacher?

I value parent/teacher communication. If there is anything that your student’s teacher would like to tell me, I would be happy to be carbon copied on emails between you and the teacher. I also welcome any extra assignments or practice exercises used in class from the teacher. This not only helps your child learn important concepts from me, but also helps them apply the concepts to class work.

Do you give any work for my student to do between sessions?

I always give assignments after each session to complement each lesson. If anything is ever too much, or the student is unable to complete it, please let me know so I can best help your student.

What results can I expect?

My methods are aimed at building confidence and improving accuracy and fluency to succeed in the target subject matters. While I push my students to enhance their learning, I go at the pace of my student. Some students progress faster than others and that’s okay. I can guarantee you will see progress.

What is your cancellation policy?

I reserve spots for my students based on my availability. If a student does not show, that may cause another student to lose out on an opportunity to learn from me. Therefore, sessions must be cancelled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a charge. Failure to cancel 24 hours in advance will result in complete payment for the session.

Where do you tutor?

Tutoring is done in your home. Preferably a quiet place without distractions. Public areas such as the kitchen, or the main room of a basement are best. In-person tutoring is never done in a student’s bedroom. A desk or a table is also preferred.

Can I run errands, or leave while you tutor?

For the safety of your student, I require at least one other person be in the house during tutoring; preferably an adult when available. However, a responsible older brother or sister is also an option. My standard is that I am a tutor, not a babysitter.

Can I meet you to decide if you are a good fit for my student?

Of course! I offer a free initial consultation which is a 20-30 minute session to meet you and your student. This can happen in person, over zoom, or as a phone call. If you have any materials you want me to see, I am happy to see them in that session.
